Mortgage arrears and repossession
One of the biggest headaches that all homeowners are faced with is the ever rising rates of mortgage interest and a salary which doesn’t rise to match. In the worst case scenario this leads to falling into mortgage arrears and been faced with the threat of repossession.
Mortgage repossession is a nightmare which every homeowner is faced with. If you cannot keep up with the repayments on your mortgage then the lender can repossess and sell your home to recover the borrowing. Even getting behind by just a couple of months repayments could mean your lender starts court proceedings and especially so if you have ignored their first attempt at communication.
Mortgage arrears should be dealt with immediately. The time to get in touch with your lender if you are facing problems would ideally be even before the first letter is sent out and a payment is missed. If you know you are faced with a situation which is short term then working with a lender and coming to an arrangement before problems occur, can put a stop to mortgage repossession proceedings before they even begin.
Providing you are able to show that the current situation is only short term and you are able to catch up on your mortgage in the near future while continuing to repay your debt, the majority of lenders are willing to help. Providing you have shown you are willing to make amends this will go in your favour if the lender declines your proposition and decides to take you to court.
