Home repossession can sometimes be avoided

The thought of facing repossession without a doubt fills one with despair and it can be a temptation to just bury your head in the sand and hope it all goes away. This can be especially so if you have received a letter from your lender after getting behind on your mortgage repayments. However one letter will lead to another and then finally a solicitor’s letter on behalf of your lender will drop through the letterbox. It is possible to stop property repossession if you take charge of your debt problems as soon as possible.

Of course the earlier you get in touch with your lender the better chance you have of keeping your home. If you propose an affordable plan to your mortgage lender to repay your mortgage arrears within a decent time frame, providing your problems are over the short term, it is possible to stop the repossession before court proceedings are taken.

Even if the lender has already started court proceedings to repossess it might not come to you losing your home if you can show the judge that you have tried to make amends, by proposing a repayment schedule. However if it has got to the stage of you having to attend a court hearing then taking advice on repossession is essential. If you are not sure where to go to get advice on repossession then a great place to start is with your local Citizens Advice Bureau.
